Detention

Detention shows up as hours, then as fuel.

A shipper holding a trailer is not a fuel-card problem until the truck sits and burns. Once GPS is already in the audit, those hours are visible.

Not a second project

Detention analysis is one of the later questions I can carry: which shippers hold trailers, which trucks idle there, what that costs in hours. It uses the TMS and GPS. It does not need a new telematics buy.

I will not lead with detention while unmatched fuel is still mixed into the weekly total. The order matters.

What the line should name

Shipper, location, arrival, departure, and whether the engine was running. A four-hour dwell with the engine off is a service problem. The same dwell with the engine on is fuel as well.

Billing the shipper is your contract. I do not file the claim. I show the hours.

What I look for

Detention I can see

01

A geofence you trust

Or a TMS stop I can read. I will not guess the yard from a city name.

02

Idle or not

Separated, so fuel is not blamed for a parked truck.

03

Your decision

Coach, reroute, or bill. I do not write the load.

Short answers

Before you book.

Next step

Let's look at fuel first, then the yards.

If detention is the louder pain, say so. I will still tell you if the fuel match has to come first.
